Go / Weiqi / Baduk

Go (Japanese), weiqi (Chinese), baduk (Korean) is a board game at the same intellectual level as chess but that I find much more compelling for several reasons. If you’re a gamer I can teach you the rules in five minutes; if you’re not, it’ll take fifteen. The game is physically beautiful. Chess is a battle; go is a war. Perhaps most of all, whereas the object of chess is to obliterate and subdue your opponent, the object of go is to find a way to live alongside your opponent while living just a bit larger.

I have no aspirations of getting past the beginner stage because I’m just not going to spend the time needed. But I do want to do my small part in making the game better known.
